2009-2010 Budget Crisis

The following is a video on why the state funding of education is "broken". It was produced by the Washtenaw ISD.

Situation:
Recently the state legislature passed a school aid budget, and after "line-item-vetoing" several sections the governor signed this budget into law. Shortly after this, the governor issued a "Pro-ration Order". There were three major items that will have a huge impact on Trenton Public Schools, our students, and our entire community.
1. With the reduction of the Foundation Allowance of $165 per student our district will lose $473,000.
2. With the elimination of 20j funds our district will lose $774,241.
3. With the Pro-ration Order of $127 per student our district will lose $364,109.
Totaled these three cuts will force Trenton Public Schools to lose $1,611,350, or $562 dollars for every student enrolled in Trenton Public Schools!

1. Contact our state legislators and our governor and share your thoughts on these recent actions and on the value of education.

2. Visit the Save Our Students, Schools, and State (S.O.S.) site at:

3. Go to Lansing on Tuesday, November 10, attend the S.O.S. Rally at 10:00 a.m. on the Capitol Steps and meet with Senator Patterson and Representative Kandrevas. (Contact Dr. Savel's office for more information on this.)
4. Circulate and/or sign the petition below. Once it is completed, please turn the form into your local school or the Board Office, and we will make sure they are given to our legislators on November 10. All forms must be in by Monday afternoon (November 9).
