National Honor Society
Submitted by wierzbc on March 31, 2010 - 2:52pm.

The National Honor Society (NHS) goal is to promote enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote productive leadership, and to encourage the development of positive character in all students of Trenton High School.

Members in the Athenaeum Chapter shall be based upon scholarship, demonstrated service, leadership and character.

Candidates are eligible for election to this chapter if they are members of the Junior or Senior class and have a 3.3 cumulative grade point average since 9th grade.  Members must maintain a 3.3 average to remain in the National Honor Society.

Selection of members shall be in accordance to the constitution, the NASSP National Honor Society Handbook, and Faculty Council. The selection process begins by asking all eligible (G.P.A. 3.3 and above) Junior and Senior students to complete a “Student Activity Resume Form”.  This form, when completed and returned by the eligible student, is used to determine interest in joining NHS and obtain information regarding service and leadership activities. Parents should review and sign the form prior to their child returning it to the NHS Advisor.  This is not an application, but an information sheet to help in making a selection decision.

Beginning with the Class of 2012, students interested in NHS Membership must provide a type written Letter of Recommendation from a non-relative who knows them well. The Letter of Recommendation is to be submitted along with the Student Activity Resume Form.

The Trenton High School Faculty using the criteria of leadership, service, and character then evaluates the eligible students who have returned the Student Activity Resume Form.

A Faculty Council, consisting of five voting faculty members (appointed annually by the principal), uses the Student Activity Information Form and Faculty evaluations to select the new NHS members. Those students receiving a majority Faculty Council vote (at least 3 out of 5) will be inducted into the Trenton High School NHS Athenaeum Chapter.
