  • In 2019, Trenton High School was approved to offer a new program titled: the Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone Diploma Program. This rigorous pathway revolves around students taking six AP Courses, two required (AP Seminar and AP Research) and four other AP courses of their choosing.  To help support this new program, we expanded our course offerings in 2019, to include 17 AP courses.  This year’s upcoming Seniors (Class of 2021) in the program, will be the first group with the potential to earn an AP Capstone Diploma or Certificate. This cohort of 17 students completed the first course in the program sequence: AP Seminar and are enrolled for 2020.2021, to take the second course in the program: AP Research. This year we also successfully piloted, running an AP course (AP World History) exclusively for 30 advanced freshmen students. This group of 9th grade students, now have the potential to take 10 AP Courses before they graduate, with the opportunity to earn college credit for passing each exam. For a full list of AP Courses available @ THS or additional information on AP Capstone and additional requirements of the program please visit: https://www.trentonschools.com/domain/100.

THS participates in a nine member consortium called the Downriver Career and Technical Consortium (DCTC) and shares over 20 programs that students have the opportunity to participate in.  During the 2020.2021 schoolyear, we are planning to expand our “in-house” Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings to include: Horticulture and Horticultural Operations. Other internal options include: Graphic Design, CAD, Marketing, WoodTech, AutoTech, Digital Media and Criminal Justice (Dual Enrollment Program offered through Wayne County Community College- Taylor).  Our Digital Media program played a vital role in our end of year activities, by producing a Virtual Night of the Stars and Virtual Graduation Ceremony, to complement the other graduation activities that we were able to offer.

During the 2019.2020 school year @ THS we started to develop and pilot a support system that revolves around 9th grade students. This initiative will result in a “Focus on Freshmen” for and is intended to: provide academic supports for struggling students, smooth the transition from middle school to high school, and engage our new class of students in the high school experience.
