Hedke Elementary School

  • Hedke Elementary School offers a family-friendly environment, caring teachers and staff, strong academics, a wide variety of family involvement opportunities, and a rich array of after-school and extracurricular activities.  The goal is to provide a world class education to all of our students and to allow them to develop all aspects of their intellect and personality.  The focus is on tending to the "whole child" considering not only academics but also emotional, social, and physical characteristics and opportunities for growth that make up the entirety of a child's persona.

We realize that parents entrust to us their most cherished child and we fully accept the responsibility that comes with that.  We also recognize that parents still want to be involved in their child's education as they have been their child's primary teacher since birth.  The entire school staff invites parents to continue to partner with us as we provide a variety of avenues for parents to stay an active and informed part of their child's schooling.  Our PTO serves as a tremendous avenue for parents to serve their child, the school, and their community.  Fathers are invited especially to our Watch Dog Dads program.  Parents with time during the day can volunteer to work in our Literacy Corp of volunteer readers and of course there are a wide variety of classroom and school events that can utilize and benefit from an active parents time and talents.

Academically Hedke realizes that the primary goal of schooling is to develop a child's love and hunger for learning.  To open a child's mind and imagination to the world around them and help them make sense of their community, state, country and the global community they inhabit is the primary reason for the school to exist.  Our school's focus on literacy in both language and mathematics forms the backbone of our curriculum.  The entire school's emphasis of  reading is demonstrated in our abundantly stocked classroom libraries and our newly renovated school library which sits at the center of our building.

Students enjoy socializing with old friends, making new friends, and participating in groups while informally learning during our many extracurricular events. Hedke hosts art, game, computing, and robotics clubs in the evenings after school.  We also encourage and recognize our students who participate in the wide variety of school and community sponsored athletic and cultural activities.  Our yearly vocal and instrumental concerts and our annual variety show highlight skills, interests and talents that may not show up on a report card and help students develop in confidence and explore their creativity.

Our school wide commitment to tending to the needs of the whole child is further evident in the safe, orderly, and respectful culture of our school emphasized by our Positive Behavior program.  Students are taught, modeled and rewarded for being safe, responsible and respectful students and citizens of our school and community.  This school culture is evident in the warm, respectful interactions of our students and staff and the happy and helpful demeanor of our students.

We want you to know that Hedke CARES:

C - child focus, curriculum, compassion, community and communication

    A - academics, accommodating, acceptance

    R - respect, responsibility, relationships

E - excellence and equity in education

S - supportive, social growth, student success!

The pride of our community in their children and its schools is evidenced in the well maintained, cleanly, and  newly renovated schools, playgrounds, and facilities.
